I have been absent from blogging for the past 3 months, but I promise you all it has been for a very good reason that I have been patiently waiting to tell everyone….

My husband and I will be expecting our first baby this September! That makes me 15 weeks along and nicely in my second trimester. Trimester one kicked my butt and left me so depleted of any energy and nauseous pretty well all waking hours, so I took a few months off from shooting to focus on my health and this little baby growing. I am feeling great now and am back in action, with some blogging to catch up on!
We are very excited and I cannot wait to have my own little photography subject

I first off want to wish everyone a big Happy New Year! I love the beginning of a new year. It marks a fresh start. A chance to start something new, get organized, set goals, look back at the past year and hopefully appreciate where you are in your life and look at where you want to be. I do not set big resolutions per se, but I do set new goals for myself. I think goal setting is so important and gives one a chance to better themselves in some facet. After all, we all have some improvement to make, not one of us is perfect.
I do not particularly enjoy sharing my own personal “resolutions” with others. I keep them close to my heart and work on them for my own self satisfaction and personal growth. One of my goals for the year though is to enjoy more time with family and friends and to capture more of my personal life on camera. I often find myself so exhausted from working full time at the hospital and with my photography business that I have no energy to leave the house and/or pick up my camera to just take snapshots. I intend on sharing more of these personal snapshots here on the blog from time to time. I know some photographer’s frown upon mixing client work with personal snaps on your business blog, but I feel differently. I enjoy looking at other professionals sites and having a bit of a glimpse into their personal life, just enough so you feel like you get to know them a bit better.
I do not intend on flooding my blog with snaps, but just adding some here and there a bit more this year. I am such a perfectionist at heart and often find it hard to even want to take a picture if the lighting is not perfect, if there are distracting elements I cannot avoid etc. I need to learn to embrace imperfections a bit more and simply capture a moment before it is gone irregardless of how imperfect the image is.
I hope you all have a fabulous 2012 and thank you for all your support and love!
Here are a couple of snaps I took yesterday!
My cat Shady.

My bestie had a sweet baby girl December 30th. Here she is at 3 days old. I will be doing her official photoshoot in a few days, so stay tuned!

I returned from a much needed vacation with my husband to the Big Island of Hawaii. It was a fabulous and relaxing time, just what we both needed! Most of you know I work full time as an RN and am also quite busy with my photography business on top of that, so a certain amount of stress is constant (as most of you can relate to). It is amazing though how rejuvenated I feel when I go away for a week and have zero stress, it really is such a fantastic way of being forced to truly relax and enjoy the beauty this world has to offer. I really believe that people should take at least one vacation a year. It gives you something to look forward to and good chance to see some beautiful places in the world. My husband and I love Hawaii so much! It will always have a special place in our hearts because two years ago we were married in Maui. This year is our third year in a row returning and our amazement at how fabulous and beautiful Hawaii is hasn’t wavered. The natural beauty that exists in Hawaii is spectacular! The fresh plumeria scented air fills you with energy and happiness. Stumbling across a one hundred year old sea turtle on the beach blows your mind! We are now on a quest to figure out how we can go twice a year instead of just once.
We chose the Big Island this year to try another Island. I also really liked the idea of seeing the lush rain forest on one side of the Island and the dry desert on the other. We drove around the entire Island in one day (over seven hours of driving) and it was amazing the different climate zones the Big Island has! Unfortunately we were unable to see the volcano due to the weather, but seeing it in the future gives us a good excuse to return to the Big Island!
Here are several shots from our trip to Hawaii, I hope you enjoy them!

Three weeks ago my cousin welcomed her third son into the world. My cousin is more like my sister as we were both only children for a better part of our childhood and are only one year apart. Our mothers are sisters and are also only one year a part, so we spent our childhood together. We weren’t so close as youngsters (we fought how sisters typically fight), but as we have become adults we have grown into being close friends.
I have watched my cousin become a wonderful mom to her boys and it has been so special to me to watch them grow and watch her family grow. I was supposed to see this new little man come into the world and I was supposed to have my first birth photography experience as a professional photographer, but Mr. Jordan chose an evening when I was at work to have as his birthday and I missed his birth by 30 minutes. I was fortunate though that I happen to work in the hospital in which he was born at, so I did get to meet this little dude when he was fresh, but I didn’t have my camera at work with me, so could not capture him quite so young.
We had our first photo session when Jordan was two days old, which I thought would go well considering how young he was. I was very wrong! He was a fuss pot and not happy at all. We tried again when he was six days old and he was a DREAM! He let me do whatever I wanted and didn’t make a peep! I am looking forward to having a new little person at my photographic fingers whenever I want, lol.
Be warned, this is a large share because I have cousin goggles on and cannot decide which images to share, so I am sharing them all (or close to it!).

This shot is inspired by Kelley Ryden, but not executed nearly as well. I still love it though! If you knew these boys, you would be impressed at their level of cooperation for this picture, lol.
I was happy to get the chance to take my first newborn outside (thanks to the heat wave in September!).

Congratulations to my wonderful cousin and her family! xxoo

Summer makes me smile.
As long as I can remember I have loved Summer more than any other season.
The warm sun, sand, beaches, swimming and general care-free atmosphere that Summer brings all make me happy. For this reason I take on less sessions in the Summer so that I can truly enjoy every minute of it with family and friends. The rest of the year for me brings a ton of work with both my full time nursing job and Trina Lianne Photography that I do not see my friends and family nearly as much as I wish to. I am enjoying a great two weeks off from my nursing job and have been out enjoying Summer to the fullest.
So far in the past few weeks I:
went swimming with my cousins in the pool I learned how to swim in
went hiking (in the rain) with some besties
spent an incredibly relaxing 4 days on the Sunshine Coast with my man and our pups
went for a great walk around False Creek with my Aussie girl
BBQ’s
Saw The Smurfs with my cousins
Shot a wedding on an organic farm in Squamish
got bit by 23 mosquito’s
read 3 novels (soon to be 4)
watched my dogs have the time of their lives running along White Rock Beach
That is just a glimpse of what I have been up to.
Here are a few personal snapshots I have taken for no one else but me.
Live life to the fullest. Enjoy your Summer as much as I am enjoying mine. Remember to take pictures while your at it.
Me and my little cousin

Katie loves Summer too!

Thanks for stopping by.
I am booking well into September now and also will share some wedding shots I took at a wedding a few weeks ago soon!
Trina xx

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there!
I thought I would share a bunch of images I have captured of mom’s and their babies. I really love capturing the love between a mom and her child, it truly is a love like no other. I have yet to feel that love for a child of my own, but I hear that it is quite something unimaginable until you experience it yourself.
I know I can definitely see it at my sessions and particularly at newborn sessions. Mother’s look at their sweet bundle throughout newborn sessions with a special twinkle in their eye. Many mom’s are not interested in being in the pictures themselves for various reasons (sleep deprivation probably topping the list) but I always try to encourage them to be, not only for themselves to look back upon, but also for their child. I know I love and adore looking through old pictures of my mom and I when I was a baby and child and when I look at them, I don’t look at my mom and think “wow she looks tired, why isn’t she wearing makeup, her hair isn’t perfect…”. I look at them and feel love and memories from such a special time in my life come flooding back. I highly encourage all mom’s to get in more pictures with their kids, if you don’t do it for you, do it for them (and for the generations that follow!).
To all the mom’s, I hope you have a fabulous Mother’s Day and feel the love not only today, but everyday! To my own mom, thanks for all that you have done, all that you do, and all that you will do. I love you! xxoo

I wish I had an old picture of my mom and I to share, but unfortunately all my old pictures are in storage and I have nothing stored on my hard-drive. I do however have an old picture of my Grandma and her mom to re-enforce my statement about the importance of being in pictures with your kids. Generations later and this picture is still cherished.

Hi all!
I haven’t blogged in the past few weeks because I have taken a glorious 2 weeks off from both of my jobs (Photography and Nursing) and have really enjoyed relaxing around the house, reading and enjoying the beginning of Spring. We are in the midst of getting our condo ready to sell, which has taken time and a lot of work, so I haven’t been able to take on many photography sessions. I am itching and dying to get out and shoot though and have a busy month coming up with newborns and babies! I am soooo thrilled and happy Spring is here and every time I am outside I smile when I look at how GREEN everything is becoming. I love love love getting outside for sessions and love even more to show off how beautiful BC really is with the old growth forests. A photographer friend, Andrea Joki, came last year in May from Finland and absolutely LOVED the outdoor locations we have here for photographing in. She specializes in environmental photography and had commented on many occasions how GREEN BC is.. I am excited that this week I have a few sessions lined up outdoors in one of our beautiful forests. If you are wanting an outdoor session, book soon, Spring is one of my favorite times of the year for getting outside, despite the rain!
Over the past few weeks the Professional Photographers of Canada have had both their national photography convention and image competition as well as the BC provincial convention and salon image competition. I had the opportunity to attend the BC convention and attend the awards ceremony last month for the first time. It was a three day event including photography speakers well known in the photography world from both Canada and the US. It is always very inspiring to be around other photographers who photograph a variety of different things from portraits, weddings, sports to landscape. I always walk away feeling very inspired to get out and shoot and learn new things. There is never enough to know in the world of photography and I absolutely love photography in so many ways and am always interested in learning more and shooting more variety. The wonderful thing about photography is the number of endless possibilities. Photography truly has given me the ability to see the world differently and I will forever be grateful for finding this love and passion of mine.
It really does ooze out of my every pore. Of course my true love lies with photographing portraits, in particular children and babies, but I love photography in general and love to get outside with nothing more than me and my camera. I don’t often share anything but my portrait work on my blog, because obviously my business is focused on shooting all of your beautiful children. However, I thought it would be fun for me to post a few images that I have shot just for fun and just for me. Macro photography has turned into quite a love of mine. Getting outside with a macro lens is a bit like therapy for me. It’s quiet and it’s a great time to focus on the smallest things in life and appreciate nature for what it is….amazing! I had no idea how many ladybugs and dragonflies were in existence just steps from my house until I went outside for the first time with my macro lens. Capturing the waterdrops as they are just ready to drop and looking at the reflections in the water drops gives one such an opportunity to appreciate what is in your backyard.
I entered images in both the BC and National image competitions for the first time and was very humbled and flattered to have an image earn a merit in the BC competition and an image earn an excellence in the National competition as well as become part of the Professional Photographers of Canada’s 2011 Loan Collection. It was great to be a part of such talent in Canada and has given me to inspiration to become that much better of a photographer in the future.
This image earned a Merit in the BC competion and an acceptance in the National competition. My friend Ashleigh Wells and I shot this beautiful couples wedding last year and embraced the pouring rain with our last shot of the night. We were so grateful this wonderful couple agreed to go outside in the pouring rain during their reception so we could capture a vision we had. It turned out just as we imagined it would and we were both pleased with the result. In Vancouver, you really have to work with rain and not against it. Ashleigh and I are teaming together and are going to shoot weddings together in the future. We are in the process of getting together are official wedding website and will announce our business in the future.

This image received an excellence in the National competition. This is the highest standing you can receive. I was very flattered and honored to have had very talented photographers judge my image and give it such an amazing place in the competition.

I was even more humbled to receive this in an email:
It really is quite an honor and one I am very grateful for.
I thought I would also share a few other non-portrait images I have shot lately.

I hope everyone is enjoying Spring!
I have been working on a secret project over the past few months and hope to share with you all very soon!
Thank you all for your love and support, I truly appreciate each and everyone of you. xx

I am finally getting around to blogging about my trip to San Antonio, Texas last month. I stayed with a wonderful photographer friend I hadn’t actually ever met in real life, it was a blast! My friend Ashleigh and I went for a big US photography convention called, Imaging USA. The convention consisted of classes taught by world famous photographers and an expo showcasing new products, equipment and basically anything photography related. Right up my alley! I came home feeling inspired and rejuvenated! This was my first time attending a photography convention so I really had no idea what to expect. The classes varied in terms of topics discussed and I chose topics that I felt were most relevant to my business and interests, but I would say my most favorite class was taught by David Williams on how to “capture the moment”. David illustrated to me the significance of what we as photographers can have in people’s lives and the significance a photograph has in our lives. I feel inspired to add more emotional value to every shoot I do and to capture moment’s all my clients will look back on 20 years from now and reminisce about. I am going to put myself out there and try new things and challenge myself in new ways. The convention has evoked a new sense of excitement about photography in general and I am going explore new artistic avenues. I am excited for the journey that is to come in my photography career and I hope you all come for the ride!
There were some other great classes as well, but David Williams class was most definitely my favorite, he was a wonderful speaker and his passion for photography spoke volumes.
The expo was wonderful to attend too. It was so great to be able to see and hold new products and I am excited about new products I hope to offer all my clients.
I love great quality products and think people need to display their photographs, not just hide them away on a CD in a drawer. I also picked up another camera bag while there, I have a bit of an obsession with camera bags!
One of my favorite aspects of going to San Antonio was the opportunity to meet up with other fabulous photographer friends who I had never met in real life. Hanging out with other people who share the same passion as you is awesome. I can’t think of any other word to describe it! We did some shooting, but you would think a bunch of photographers hanging out together for a week would result in a million photographs, but honestly we were so sleep deprived and busy attending the convention, we really only did a couple of shoots. The weather in San Antonio was not the greatest, it rained for the first few days, but by the end of the week warmed up and became sunny. Our first shoot was of a beautiful family in the rain. They were troopers who braved the weather and between all of us will have some great photographs.

We did some shooting around the river walk during lunch on one of the convention days shooting a gorgeous photographer friend and her husband.

Towards the end of the week we did a bridal shoot with a beautiful bride!

Here are some other random shots from the week!
My friend and fabulous photographer Ashleigh Wells!

I have been really wanting to take my dogs out for a Fall photo shoot, but due to the rainy weather I have been unable to. So instead I set up the studio and did a Fall session indoors! Its much easier to shoot them indoors anyway, less distractions! Everyone always asks me how I get them to cooperate so well. Its a combination of a few things, but mostly treats!
They LOVE food and will do just about anything if it means they get some. They are also really well trained and know commands such as sit, stay, watch me etc very well. When they aren’t looking at me, I make odd noises to get their attention. My neighbors must think I am pretty crazy if they had no idea what I was up to!
Here are a few shots from our session yesterday! I think my girls are pretty cute and I’m sure you all will too!

I took a few pictures this morning of my girls outside in this corner of yard around my building. After 5 years, the trees and shrubs are finally really starting to grow and look like they have always been where they are. I really love this time of year, everything is soooo green! I sick of the rain, but without the rain we wouldn’t have the beauty of BC.
Here is Isa, she doesn’t really like to stay.
She sees the treat in my hand and her one track mind is after it! Here is one shot I managed to get of my little red stinker.

Katie is a tad more cooperative in sitting and staying. She is the educated one who went to school though, so maybe all that education has helped?!

I bought a new macro lens a few weeks ago and haven’t had much time to really use it, but here are a few of the first few shots I took with it.
This little guy was trying to hide from me and was crawling all over this leaf like crazy! I had to take about 20 shots to get this one in focus, haha.

This damselfly was sitting there just waiting for me to come along with my camera! It really is amazing how many different insects there are out there when you on the search for them.

This lavendar looks enormous, but really it is teeny tiny! Got to love the macro lens! I love lavender, it is my favorite scent. Friends tease me and say I am an old lady because of how much I love the smell of lavender! It is wonderful to eat too, in the Summer I often make lavender lemonade.

I hope you are enjoying the little things this Summer
