A sweet little girl just turned one! I met this sweetie when she was under a week old for her newborn portraits, she was just as beautiful then as she is now! I love  seeing my newborn babies again to see how much they have grown and to get to see how their personalities turned out. This little one was busy busy and very curious. She would have preferred to play with my camera vs having it take her pictures, although I can totally relate to that obsession! To mark her first birthday, she had the pleasure of smashing a cake. In my experience, some baby’s really love to smash it and other’s do not like getting their hands sticky and dirty and are a bit weirded out by it. Miss S loved it! Her big brother was hoping to have a piece of it when she was done, but she absolute made sure that was not going to happen! She demolished the cake to crumbs! She was not too interested in eating it, rather more interested in playing in it. It was super cute and I think we captured some adorable shots of her having a blast.

Thanks for having me capture your beautiful girl again!

Happy 1st Birthday Miss S!

See how much she has grown!

My little cousin is about the cutest little baby I have ever seen! He is growing way too fast, but his personality is really starting to shine and he has become such a happy little baby!

I took some updated shots of him at 5 months of age and just learning to sit. I love this age so much! This age is such a joy to photograph! I love it when baby’s grab their toes.

This is a shot of him with my little dog Katie. Katie was so good with him. She rolled onto her back and had no issues with him exploring her. He was very curious and didn’t quite know what to think!

A few months ago I saw on another photographer’s website a link to an organization called Helping Hearts. I was interested in what this organization was all about and browsed through their website. Helping Hearts is a non-profit organization which provides free photography sessions for families with sick children. A huge team of volunteer photographer’s from all over Canada donate their time and talent to this great cause and because of this families with sick children are able to cherish the precious moments with their children and have memories to last a lifetime. I applied to be one of many volunteer photographer’s and was accepted a few months ago. I had my first Helping Hearts session last week and am so happy I have been able to capture a sweet little four month old.

Meet Miss Hailey

Surrey baby Photography

Hailey was born with Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH). Congenital Diaphragmatic Hernia (CDH) occurs in approximately 1 in every 2,500 births.

The cause of CDH is not yet known. The diaphragm is formed in the first trimester of pregnancy and controls the lungs ability to inhale and exhale. CDH occurs when the diaphragm fails to form or to close totally and an opening allows abdominal organs into the chest cavity. This inhibits lung growth. 50% of babies diagnosed with CDH do not survive. Of the 50% that do survive, most will endure long hospital stays, feeding issues, asthma and other problems.

Hailey’s parents learned at their routine 20 week ultrasound about Hailey’s medical condition which caused them to worry for the rest of the pregnancy about her survival once she was born. The doctors really have no idea about survival as each case is different and many factors can affect their health. Hailey was one of the lucky ones, she was only in the NICU for 39 days. She had her guardian angel, her uncle Jamie, looking down on her the entire time. It turns out Jamie had been watching over her from the beginning.  Hailey’s parents found out about Hailey’s condition on Jamie’s birthday. Hailey was born on the anniversary date of Jamie’s passing from Leukemia and finally she went home on the day of the annual fundraiser for Leukemia.

Hailey’s mom and dad are so proud of her! She has overcome so much already at such a young age. She didn’t let any challenges get to her and she has overcome every obstacle in order to go home very quickly. Her mom and dad are hopeful  if she develops any other health conditions due to CDH she will overcome them as well. Just a few days before our session Hailey had her four month check-up at Children’s Hospital and I am thrilled to say she is a happy and healthy four month old! It was such a pleasure photographing her. She was so smiley and happy and made my job VERY easy!

I had the pleasure of photographing a wonderful family a few weeks ago. It was a beautiful sunny Fall day and the perfect evening to walk through  a park in Langley. The smallest member of the family at almost one was absolutely adorable and made my job soooooo easy as a photographer, I hardly had to work for smiles.

Mom is the photographer of the family and as a result is hardly ever in front of the camera, so my focus of this session was to ensure I captured her and her little girl. I can relate to never actually being in pictures, so wanted to make sure I captured images she would love.

Thanks again for having me photograph your beautiful family!

Fall leaves

Mom really wanted a picture of her nursing her baby girl. It is such a bond between mother and child and I think every mom should have a photograph of it.

Baby Nursing

A friend of mine welcomed her second bundle of joy in September. She is pure perfection!

I photographed her in her fifth week of life. It is amazing how quickly fresh babies change. I typically photograph newborns before they are two weeks old because after that they have already lost their curly sleepy newborn stage. Little Miss B was not a curled up newborn any longer at five weeks old, but she sure gave us some cute shots. Her bright eyes and sweet little grins were adorable! I have photographed her big brother throughout his two years of life; as a newborn, four month-er, and his first year portraits. He is now two years old. It is unbelievable how time flies! I cannot believe how much his little sister looks like him!

I have been friends with these little munchkins mama for several years (over 17 years…yikes!) and I am so thrilled for her on her growing family. Congratulations my friend, you are a wonderful mama and you make beautiful babies!  xxoo

It was such a blast watching Miss L smash and devour her first birthday cake! I have had some little one year olds who hate their cake and do not want anything to do with getting their hands all sticky and mucky from smashing it. This was not the case at all for this sweet heart! She loved every minute of it!

Just seconds after I said to her parents “I hope she puts her feet in it, its so cute when they start smashing the cake with their feet”, sure enough Miss L started smashing her legs and feet into the cake too! Isn’t this cake the cutest little cake too?! Miss L had an entire ladybug themed first birthday party and her cake smash cake was a mini version of her 3 tier first birthday party cake. She had a little sampling of the cake then and sure remembered how good it tasted!

You may remember this cutie from one year ago when she was just a wee newborn. She has sure grown in a year and has the most beautiful dimples and brown eyes. See for yourself!

Happy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there!

I thought I would share a bunch of images I have captured of mom’s and their babies. I really love capturing the love between a mom and her child, it truly is a love like no other. I have yet to feel that love for a child of my own, but I hear that it is quite something unimaginable until you experience it yourself.

I know I can definitely see it at my sessions and particularly at newborn sessions. Mother’s look at their sweet bundle throughout newborn sessions with a special twinkle in their eye. Many mom’s are not interested in being in the pictures themselves for various reasons (sleep deprivation probably topping the list) but I always try to encourage them to be, not only for themselves to look back upon, but also for their child. I know I love and adore looking through old pictures of my mom and I when I was a baby and child and when I look at them, I don’t look at my mom and think “wow she looks tired, why isn’t she wearing makeup, her hair isn’t perfect…”. I look at them and feel love and memories from such a special time in my life come flooding back. I highly encourage all mom’s to get in more pictures with their kids, if you don’t do it for you, do it for them (and for the generations that follow!).

To all the mom’s, I hope you have a fabulous Mother’s Day and feel the love not only today, but everyday! To my own mom, thanks for all that you have done, all that you do, and all that you will do. I love you! xxoo

I wish I had an old picture of my mom and I to share, but  unfortunately all my old pictures are in storage and I have nothing stored on my hard-drive. I do however have an old picture of my Grandma and her mom to re-enforce my statement about the importance of being in pictures with your kids. Generations later and this picture is still cherished.

I photographed a sweet adorable 7 month old yesterday and she looks just like a cabbage patch doll! I could squeeze her chubby thighs all day long! I love love love to photograph babies this age.

They are right up there and tied with my love of newborns. I always recommend if parents are wanting to get the next stage of their baby captured to do so at this age. They are smiley, interactive, can still touch their toes, not quite mobile enough to run away and are learning all sorts of new things. Swoon!

Enjoy this beauty, she is going to steal someones heart one day!

I photographed her as a little wee newborn too! See how much she has grown!

A few weeks ago my good friend and fellow pho tographer Ashleigh Wells of Ashleigh Wells Pho

tography and I took a trip down to Bellingham to meet up with another amazing photographer friend Kristin Hemenway of Images by Kristin. We took pictures of two extremely adorable kids at an old barn that provided the most amazing light a photographer could dream of (yes photographers do dream of amazing light!). It is such a blast to meet up and shoot with other photographers who share the same passion as you (and who also dream of amazing light!). Its fun to bounce ideas off each other and inspire each other in new ways. It sure helps to have the cutest little models EVER!! We also shot an engagement session, which will be shared at a later date!

got the cutest chubby cheeks ever! I couldn’t stop squeezing them, its a good thing she liked that and smiled when I did. She had a short cat nap during our session for 15 minutes and woke up happy. It was a pleasure to photograph her!

Her cheeks were weighing her down!
